Choosing Your Tiara

So, your dream dress is chosen, you’ve seen a pair of shoes to die for and now it’s time to think about your tiara. But where do you start?
• First of all, it’s very important that you choose a tiara that suits your face. If you have a round face, opt for a design with a small peak to add height to your face. If you have a longer face, choose a headband design with little or no height.

• Are you taller than your fiancé, if so, don’t choose a tall tiara, choose a more discrete headband which will still give you lots of detail and sparkle. Alternatively, if your groom towers about you, why not have your hair in an elaborate up-do and set it off with a tiara which graduates into a sparkling peak.

• Think about the style of your dress - is it a princess style gown or a vintage chic sheath? Do you want heaps of sparkling Swarovski crystals as your crowning glory or a swathe of diamantes for understated elegance.

• What colour is your dress – if it’s white, it’s best to use a silver based tiara band with Swarovski crystal pearls and crystals and diamantes too. If it’s ivory or cream, choose a gold based tiara band and Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls which have the palest hint of cream to them. If you have opted for a coloured dress, why compliment this colour by incorporating it within the design – Swarovski offer a rainbow of colour for their range of glass pearls and crystals so you are sure to find a shade to match your colour scheme.

• What comes first, the hairstyle or the tiara – that all depends on what is more important to you. If you have fallen in love with a tiara, then take it with you to your hair trial and ask your hairdresser to suggest styles which will compliment the tiara and work around it. If you have already decided on what hair style you would like take your time trying on lots of different styles to see which would suit the style best. Just like with wedding gowns, try ones on that don’t normally jump out at you as a style you’d normally go for – you just never know.

• Your tiara should frame your face and not draw attention away from it.

• Match the beading and detailing on your dress with the beading on your tiara. If you have freshwater pearls on your dress, incorporate it in the design of your tiara. Likewise for crystals and diamantes.

• Consider what jewellery you will be wearing, it’s a good idea to compliment your tiara by choosing jewellery that co-ordinate’s with your whole outfit.

• Don’t feel pressured to buy a tiara in the boutique you have bought your dress from. If you see one you like, keep it in mind but take time to look around in bridal magazines and on-line for ideas and inspiration.

• Finally, if you can’t see the perfect design to fit what you imagine in your head, why not consider having one designed and handmade especially for you. A good designer will incorporate all your ideas and suggest designs which will compliment your outfit.
