How To Add Some Magic To Your Big Day
So why do you think you sometimes see magicians performing at weddings? There are several reasons why people choose to have it as part of their big day: it has the benefit of being a form of entertainment that appeals to a wide range of ages and tastes, when done well it is memorable (in a positive way!) and also very importantly, having magic is practical as an ice-breaker between people who may have only just met.
There are two types of magic that tend to work well at weddings:
CLOSE-UP MAGIC:
This is contemporary interactive magic performed at close quarters and it usually works best in two places in the wedding: either during the time when photos are being taken to get groups intermingling and to help pass the time and/or when your guests are seated at tables as something special between courses.
AFTER DINNER CABARET SHOW:
A show that's light-hearted and fun can be an unusual form of entertainment to close the wedding breakfast and get the party started. This usually fits best after the meal and the speeches and before the dance. At this point, you might wish to have a cabaret magic act or 'stage show' as something special for the audience to share all at once.
TIPS ON CHOOSING THE RIGHT MAGICIAN: 1. Watch his demo video to get a feeling for his personality while he performs. When an entertainer is mixing directly with guests, his or her personality and how it fits with your friends and family is arguably as important as the magic he does. 2. Look at his CV and and references to make sure he has a track record that you like. 3. Speak with him directly rather than just ask around for quotes. Speaking by phone will give you a much better feeling for what you'll get on the day.
